This project is a documentation of modern day practice of traditional Yemeni beauty rituals by women.

Having never lived in Yemen, one of my earliest connection to my roots was through traditional beauty rituals mom would teach me.

Sidr leaves

Hadrami Honey

Henna

These three staple ingredients make up every woman’s beauty routine and they make sure to never run out of ways to import them from Yemen through visiting relatives coming to the UAE.

From the intensely sweet Hadhrami honey that we use as face masks, to thick and fragrant concoctions of hair conditioner made from powdered Sedr leaves. These are beautiful long lost practices that bring women together for much needed self care and beauty time. In a way, this project is my way of …

Showing the beauty of our culture and agricultural resources…

Finding a connection to a country I never got to call home…

Celebrating beauty traditions that should not be forgotten.
